This year marks the 56th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on May 12, 2019.
World Day of Prayer for Vocations falls on Good Shepherd Sunday as well as on Mother's Day. There is a sense of direction from the Lord to foster vocations, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). In honor of our Blessed Mother Mary, today from 3–4 p.m. the Archdiocese of Chicago will offer a Holy Hour at Holy Name Cathedral for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Our Blessed Mother was direct with Jesus when the time was ready. In a similar way, we ask her to be direct with these laborers Jesus is sending to today's harvest. We will take a moment in prayer and silence to reflect on Jesus' love for our vocation and ask him to provide us with the proper tools needed to help form and guide those laborers searching for their vocation.
